ALEXA
Alexa Towersey is “Action Alexa” - a high performance coach, internationally published celebrity trainer, 3 x sports cover model, motivational speaker and mental health facilitator with over 2 decades of experience within the health & fitness industry.
Growing up in a military family, Alexa’s mission for muscles began amidst adversity, overcoming childhood bullying with a dedication to fitness. Nicknamed “Alexa Annorexa" in school, she found solace and strength in the gym, shaping not only her physique but also her unwavering mental fortitude. Her mantra,”When I feel physically strong, I think strong thoughts” underscores her belief in the profound connection between physical and mental well-being.
"you’ll never regret being too strong.”
Alexa graduated University with a Bachelor of Science, double majoring in Biology and Psychology. She then continued on with a post graduate diploma in Sports Management and Kinesiology, completing work experience with an “All Blacks” affiliated pilates studio. All through university, Alexa wrestled with the Mania Sportsfighting Academy, excelled as a Linebacker and Wide Receiver for a NZ Womens' Champion Gridiron team - The Tamaki Lightning – and played soccer at a representative level.
In 2007 she moved to Hong Kong, attained her NASM qualification, completed in house internships with Poliquin, Merinovich, Gray Cook and Martin Rooney, and headed up the Strength and Conditioning division for a top MMA gym. One year later, she was voted in the Top 3 Toughest Trainers in Asia.
“YOU GROW THROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH”
Not one to be satisfied with being "comfortable", Alexa began looking for a new challenge and decided to compete in Half Ironman 70.3. It was at this time that she came across Gym Jones, and fell in love with the "Mind is Primary" philosophy. 2 years later, she qualified for the 70.3 World Champs on a broken foot, and 7 years later, became the first female Gym Jones Fully Certified Instructor in Australia and only the second female worldwide. In 2022, she trained for and completed the World’s longest and toughest horse race, “The Mongol Derby” (1000 kms across the Mongolian Desert on semi-wild horses), winning the coveted Nomad award for resilience in the process.
Beyond her media presence, Alexa uses her knowledge and lived experience to give back as a passionate advocate for mental health, highlighted by a US based tour opening for internationally acclaimed Suicide Prevention Crusader Kevin Hines, in addition to presenting impactful keynotes for Brown Foreman, Live Nation, Google, the Gold Industry Group and the Citigroup Women of Power Series. She is a popular podcast guest, with her journey to sobriety (16 years sober) inspiring her very own collaboration with Listnr, “How Fitness Saved my Life.”
"STRONG ALONE. STRONGER TOGETHER”
